stylish luxury every time

a Rushyglen Cottage

Exterior in the Scottish vernacular

The Rushyglen Cottage is a solidly-built, permanent and mortgageable building. It complies with the Building Regulations applicable to a house and is highly insulated. It has been designed to be as sustainable as possible.

Externally a Rushyglen Cottage can be finished with traditional lime harling, or stone and slate, or corrugated iron or thatch or indeed any finish acceptable to the Planners and compliant with Building Regulations.

The cottage is designed in accordance with the proportions and style of a traditional cottage. Rushyglen cottages look right in the landscape. Designed in accordance with the principles of proportion identified in vernacular architecture by Robert J Naismith in his book "Buildings of the Scottish Countryside", they are pleasing to the eye and [crucially] favoured by the Planners.

Stylish interior every time

Internally the cottage is like a boutique hotel but with every imaginable self-catering luxury, including the latest IT and entertainment installations. The cottage has a spacious ground floor double bedroom and adjoining dressing room, a shower room with level access shower which can alternatively be a bathroom, a comfortably-sized living room with french windows and a staircase in a double-height top-lit galleried entrance hall leading to a twin bedroom and a sitting room/playroom. Although this may look like a traditional cottage on the outside, it is bright and modern and anything but old-fashioned inside.

A Rushyglen Cottage is a total contrast to a holiday chalet. It is a proper solidly built house. The interior has been designed to maximise the available space but it is fully equipped - the kitchen includes top-end appliances (dishwasher, washing machine, cooker, fridge, freezer and microwave.) It is a mortagageable building with a full life expectancy.

Rushyglen cottages are designed to appeal to the premium end of the self-catering market. There is a shortage of high quality product at this end of the market and it is very hard for the holiday maker to distinguish the excellent from mediocre. By offering a branded product to the market Rushyglen provide confidence to the holiday maker that they will have the same excellent experience wherever they take a Rushyglen cottage. As the brand grows this gives the individual Rushyglen cottage owner a strength in the self catering market that it would be hard to achieve otherwise.
